EY Takes Broadway!
FSPA hosted an eventful trip to New York City the weekend of January 8th as part of the school's yearlong celebration of its silver anniversary. More than one hundred FSPA students, student family members, alumni and staff were on hand to commemorate.
After an opening dinner celebration Friday evening at Maxie’s Restaurant, many FSPA students attended master classes on Saturday morning at the Ripley Grier Studios with The Broadway Artists Alliance (BAA) of New York City.
FSPA’S professional touring ensemble, Electric Youth, was represented at the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) Convention at New York’s Hilton Hotel. An Electric Youth Showcase was staged at 6 pm, 7:15 pm and 8:30 pm at the Times Square Arts Center for agents, entertainment executives and convention attendees. Following the showcase performances, a private party was held at the Times Square Arts Center for FSPA families and friends to share memories and milestones of FSPA’S twenty five year history. It was a fabulous celebration with many FSPA alumni enjoying the Electric Youth Show and the dinner following.
Master classes with the BAA concluded on Monday with Tony-Award winning guest teacher Bill Irwin. Executive Director, Raye Lynn Mercer comments “this was an incredible experience for our current students to take classes with working Broadway professionals, as well as a terrific opportunity for Electric Youth to be showcased in an off-Broadway revue. We were thrilled to celebrate these important milestones with many FSPA alumni that are currently pursuing professional careers in New York City. The weekend was a tremendous success for FSPA!"
